Homes are usually the place where people spend a decent amount of their time. If you’re not at work or out spending the evening with friends, you’re home. You sleep there. You shower there. You relax so that you’re ready for another day of work there.
If anybody doesn’t spend much time at home, the reason is probably because their home doesn’t have the homey appeal that it should. It might be tight, dirty, or uninviting, but with a few simple tricks, any house can be transformed into a place where you can’t wait to spend time. Here are 4 ways to give your home the interior makeover it desperately needs so that you not only feel comfortable within the walls of your own place, but so that others do, too.
Paint the Cabinets
The kitchen is an area in the house that gets a lot of attention. If it’s an eyesore, the likelihood of anybody wanting to spend time there is slim. You might end up going out to eat more because you simply don’t like to spend time in your kitchen. There is a simple fix to this problem. Just paint the cabinets. If they’re worn, dirty, or just an ugly shade of brown, a little TLC goes a long way.
Take a washcloth to the surface to make sure all dirt and grime is clear, sand down any rough spots, and go to town with a new coat of paint. Make the cabinets white to bring more light and space into the room or paint them a fun color that suits your personality. No matter what color you choose, your kitchen will instantly be transformed into a space people migrate toward.
Change Up the Floors
Changing up the floors of your home can be a big commitment but that doesn’t mean it has to be scary or spendy. Carpets, especially old and stained ones do a great job at making a space feel dated and dirty. If you want to give your house a facelift without literally remodeling everything, just start with the floors of a room or two.
Do some research on the kinds of floors that will be right for you and your lifestyle and make the switch. You’ll be amazed by the difference a hardwood makes in the place where carpet or linoleum used to be.
Buy New Pillows and Curtains
If painting the cabinets or putting in new floors is too big of a step for you, consider doing something smaller like buying new curtains or pillows for the couches. The brain can tire easily of the same color palette, so if you do something as simple as change out some of the aesthetic features of a room, you’ll feel like your place is brand new.
