WHITE HOUSE PLANTS AND GARDEN

WELCOME TO WHITE HOUSE PLANTS where you will find an excellent selection of rare garden plants to order along with details of when the garden is open to the public.  Use the Navigation Menu on the left-hand side to find your way around.

The PLANT CATALOGUE pages provide descriptions and there are several photos on the Pictures page. You can buy plants any time of day or night by using the Shopping Cart and PayPal, however for larger orders you may wish to contact us to discuss postage and packing charges. Indeed, it is the case with many specialist nurseries that it is much wiser to contact the proprietor, in this case Gilly, before buying to ensure that the plant is able to be sent by post.  Throughout the year plants grow and sometimes simply cannot be sent in the post because they are too large. Our contact Details are on the How To Buy page.

THE PROPRIETOR OF WHITE HOUSE PLANTS is Gilly Hill who has been a professional Garden Designer and Landscaper for many years, and has been avidly interested in plants for many years before turning professional.

THE GARDEN where Gilly lives is approximately 3/4 of an acre in South Nottinghamshire where   plants offered for sale are tried and tested in exposed conditions on basically heavy clay soil. The garden has been the subject of many newspaper and magazine articles over the years and has been televised   including BBC   Gardener`s World with Gay Search in 1999. It has hosted days for the Hardy Plant Society and opened for many years for the charity the National Gardens Scheme, during which time Gilly was the County Organiser for Nottinghamshire. The garden is opening again in 2009 and details are given on other pages.

PLANT SALES are by Mail Order only or on charity garden open days, and unfortunately no callers can be accepted at the garden otherwise.   Sometimes deliveries can be negotiated if you are very near to the nursery but only by negotiation.(Use the Contact Form for your enqiry) A wide range of plants is offered through Rare Plants By Post and the aim is to have as many of these available as possible throughout the season. However, it is simply not feasible to have all of the rarer varieties available at all times, and therefore it is extremely advisable to contact Gilly before sending an order or any money.

PLANTS are kept in small pots as long as possible for the benefit of mail order postage, but as the season progresses they must be potted on into bigger pots for their own welfare.   All prices quoted are for plants ex  9cm pots except where specifically stated.   Some plants are simply not suitable for posting at certain times of the year, e.g., Delphiniums, because their flowers spikes are delicate and too long.   Please always feel free to contact Gilly Hill for any information.

PROPAGATION takes place here for WHITE HOUSE PLANTS

This building is where the propagation takes place for Rare Plants By Post. The   outbuildings were used from 1939 to 1980 for housing the previous owner`s horses, which he used to hunt until he was in his 90`s. It is hoped you will look through the site to find out about   the garden and   plants; the knowledge gleaned over the years will be passed on, and hopefully you will want to try some of  the plants in your garden.

EXTEND THE SEASON IN YOUR GARDEN and amaze your friends at the same time enhancing your own enjoyment of your garden.   Plants are available from us   which flower into the Autumn  season and beyond giving interest for much longer.

OBTAIN RARE PLANTS BY POST  from us such as a yellow flowering Red Hot Poker! These plants have an upright flower spike just like the Red Hot Poker remembered from the past, and as a result of this vertical accent provide a focal point in the border which proves extremely successful.

A VIEW NEAR GILLY`S HOUSE:

ERYSIMUM APRICOT TWIST is the plant with the orange flowers you see here. It is a good perennial wallflower growing along in the dry area near the sitting room wall.   Flowering for many months it is an extremely useful plant.

WEEDING IN THE  BORDER:

WEEDING is an essential part of successful gardening, because plants will only grow well when they have plenty of food and water, and weeds which grow close to garden plants compete for the nutrition and moisture in the soil.
